At Credit Counselling Services of Atlantic Canada, Inc (“CCSAC”), we are committed to assisting consumers in financial distress by focusing on the areas of money management, budgeting, and the responsible use of credit. We also offer a debt management program (“DMP”) to help consumers negotiate repayment arrangements with their creditors.

The agency obtains the majority of its funding through voluntary creditor contributions referred to as fair-share. The fair-share contributions are calculated as a percentage of the payments that are made through your DMP deposits. However, your accounts will be credited with 100% of the amount that you pay through the program and CCSAC will work with all of your creditors regardless of whether or not they contribute to our agency.

I/We understand that :

• As a client of CCSAC I will be treated with dignity and respect.

• Attending the initial counselling session will have no impact on my credit rating.

• The agency (CCSAC) will provide a confidential money management interview and will provide me with a written action plan outlining the goals and objectives agreed upon and recommend by my counsellor.

• My counsellor can answer basic questions with regards to bankruptcy but cannot provide legal advice; a referral to a Trustee in Bankruptcy will be given upon my request.

• I may choose to enrol in the agency’s debt management program (“DMP”). Under the DMP the agency will negotiate a payment plan with my creditors to help liquidate my financial obligations.

• Enrolling in a DMP may adversely affect, or may improve, my credit rating depending on my current situation.

• The agency will not be responsible or liable for any past, present, or future credit ratings that I receive as a result of enrolling in the debt management program (DMP).

• I will receive a written receipt for any fees associated with this interview.

• I can contact the counsellor’s supervisor if I am dissatisfied with the counselling session.

• CCSAC has a privacy policy, a copy of which I have received, in place to protect my information and will not use or disclose this information without my prior consent.

• I can request that any misinformation, errors, or omissions contained in my file be amended or updated to reflect the correct information.

• I can request to review the details of my file. This review will be conducted at the agency’s offices in the presence of an agency staff member.

• I have the right to insert a personal statement into my file.
