Saint John NB, Financial Literacy Month is an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of having the knowledge, skills and confidence to make financial decisions. We see the effects of financial decisions every day and work with consumers to support them through the situation they find themselves in.
Even though it is essential to be aware of your finances at all times, November helps us to frame the conversation. One of our focuses since the initial Financial Literacy Month in 2011 is delivering the Grade 4 Read. This is where our staff throughout Atlantic Canada visit Grade 4 classrooms, talk about money, read a story based on financial concepts, work on goal setting and leave them with a piggy bank to reach their financial goal.
Since 2011 we have reached over 4000 Grade 4’s with this program and it continues to grow. This is our busiest year with 56 classroom participating.
Credit Counselling Services of Atlantic Canada is a non-profit organization that works with consumers to manage debt and to better understand their finances. Our mission is to support, educate, and empower. While the majority of our counselling clientele consists of consumers dealing with debt, our education component proactively educates consumers on the essentials of budgeting and understanding personal finances. http://solveyourdebts.wpengine.com
